Bob Schreiner—Brief Biography

Bob Schreiner came to Chapel Hill in 1972 as a graduate student in UNC-CH’s curriculum in biomedical engineering. His career was in computing, both in a technical capacity in the School of Medicine and as the first director of the School of Public Health’s computing services organization. Since retirement in 2012 he has volunteered at the Wilson Special Collections Library and with the Friends of the Chapel Hill Public Library.
Bob Schreiner began collecting coins from circulation as a child in the 1950s. His numismatic interests have ranged from Lincoln cents to chop-marked coins to North Carolina colonial paper money.
He is active in several numismatic organizations, and he has served as president of the North Carolina Numismatic Association and the Raleigh Coin Club.
He is author of numerous articles and presentations about numismatics. He recently was co-curator of an exhibit in Wilson Library “The Art of North Carolina Money.”
